On 12 November 2025, the Faculty of Law of Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University
(TSU) conducted a working meeting dedicated to academic cooperation with the Faculty
of Law of Martin-Luther-Universität Halle-Wittenberg (MLU), Germany.
During the meeting, the Dean of the Faculty of Law, Prof. Dr. Tamar Zarandia, and TSU
lecturer Dr. Nana Mchedlidze discussed the outcomes of the Erasmus+ mobility visit to
MLU. Dr. Mchedlidze reported to the Dean on the results of her mobility, including the
integration of new topics into existing courses, the refinement of teaching
methodologies, and adjustments to the syllabus inspired by the experience at MLU. The
next steps for deepening cooperation between the two law faculties were then outlined.
The discussion focused on the main areas of research at MLU’s Faculty of Law,
including Transformation, Sustainability, Environment and Law; International Economic
Law; Medicine, Ethics, and Law; Digitalization and Law; and Foundations of Law, the
Rule of Law, and Social Cohesion. These fields were identified as particularly promising
for joint academic and research collaboration between TSU and MLU.
“The cooperation between the Law Faculties of Tbilisi State University and Martin-
Luther-Universität Halle-Wittenberg represents a valuable academic partnership. It
promotes the exchange of ideas, comparative legal research, and mutual understanding
between our institutions. Such collaboration enhances the quality of legal education and
strengthens the European dimension of teaching and research. We are committed to
continuing and deepening this cooperation in the coming years,” said the Dean of the
Faculty of Law, Prof. Dr. Zarandia.
It was also agreed that the specialist at the Student Services Office, a TSU law student,
Ms. Elene Tkemaladze will assist interested students in obtaining information about the
MLU Faculty of Law and will provide guidance regarding the exchange process and
study opportunities in Germany.
This meeting reaffirmed the shared commitment of both universities to strengthening
academic ties and expanding opportunities for students and faculty members through
international cooperation within the Erasmus+ framework.
